We are looking to appoint an Advanced Occupational Therapist to join our MDT. We are particularly interested in applicants who have significant experience of working with children and young people with intellectual disability and/or autism. Demonstrable skills and training within Sensory Integration would also be desirable.
Experience of multi-disciplinary working with complex young people and service development would also be desirable.
The role will involve working across the Wakefield District, with opportunities to see children in various community settings, as well as within CAMHS bases. A flexible approach to travel is required to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a passionate and skilled Advanced Occupational Therapist to join our CAMH team. Playing a key role in providing assessments, complex formulation, and interventions that are both evidence-based and tailored to the individual's unique needs and context.
Collaborative working is central to this role, as you will be part of a specialist MDT, working closely with other agencies and across CAMHS pathways. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential to building effective relationships and sharing knowledge.
Supporting consultation, delivering training, and offering supervision will be part of this role, alongside carrying out comprehensive assessments (including sensory assessments) and developing bespoke interventions for our neurodivergent Children and Young People.

To be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and management of occupational therapy within the designated clinical area, undertaking a complex, multi-functional role, combining managerial, clinical, and professional duties and responsibilities.
To have an identified clinical role for highly complex cases within their designated service.
To provide advice and support to other therapy staff and members of the multi-disciplinary team within the service.
To facilitate collaborative working across occupational therapy, maximizing the skills of the therapists, therapy assistants, and other staff.
In the capacity as a representative of the therapy services to liaise with the consultants and other medical, therapy, and nursing staff, social services, voluntary agencies, and the private sector.

To work in a specialised autonomous capacity accepting referrals for patients/service users referred to your clinical area, giving advice and support to other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

To plan and prioritise your own patient caseload (where appropriate), with highly complex needs, using highly specialist occupational therapy skills. Use excellent communication and negotiation skills to establish a therapeutic relationship in complex and sometimes highly complex cases, taking into account the views and wishes of service users, carers, and families. Monitor, evaluate, and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure patient safety, thus maximising the effectiveness of occupational therapy intervention.
To work with patients/families to aid their acceptance, understanding, and management of their condition/disability. To provide the necessary support required in a sometimes hostile/antagonistic or highly emotional atmosphere.
To use highly advanced clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment skills which implement evidence-based practice.
