In this post, you will be a key member of the medicines safety team, involved in dynamic workstreams focused on optimising and improving the safe use of medicines throughout the trust.

The role provides an opportunity to expand your expertise and skillset, to be involved in service development or research and to put your management and leadership skills into action in a supportive setting. The post holder should maintain high standards of pharmaceutical care, ensure timely, effective communication with both the multi-disciplinary clinical teams and collaborators.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job are active involvement in learning from incidents and risks, measuring and monitoring safety to ensure the safest use of medicines, optimising processes and systems and engaging all staff in the medicine safety agenda.

Main responsibilities

To promote the safe use of medicines in accordance with legislation, guidance and evidence-based best practice. To work with corporate and divisional colleagues to ensure medication risks are identified, assessed and risk reduction measures put in place and monitored. To promote a multidisciplinary approach to medicines safety and ensure that all healthcare professionals are trained and competent in safe medicines use. To act as a mentor and role model and be a source of expert medication safety practice and to raise the profile and promote sharing and learning with colleagues and patients locally. To promote learning and sharing of experiences in risk reduction and improvement methodologies in relation to medicines safety. To participate in audit, research and quality improvement to support medicines safety. To use innovation to support effective patient outcomes, improve experience, enhance cost-effectiveness and particularly to support safety improvement.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Degree in Pharmacy (Masters) or equivalent. Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Post-Graduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or equivalent experience.

Desirable MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or Patient Safety (or equivalent). Education and training experience. Patient safety or human factors training.

Experience

Essential Broad clinical pharmacy provision in a number of different clinical areas or sectors. Delivering quality improvements and change management. Risk management and investigation of incidents.

Desirable Line management / Leading a team.
