20/01/2025 At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you. There has never been a more exciting time to work in Swindon’s Children, Families and Community Health service. We are looking for an Advice and Information Officer to join our Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). You will be co-located with colleagues from Police, Social Care, Health and Early Help. Your next role The Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) provides a rapid and effective service in response to all new safeguarding concerns, where someone is concerned about the safety or well-being of a child or young person, or thinks they might be at risk of harm. Information is gathered from individual agencies and is shared to build a holistic picture of the circumstances of a case. As a result, the agencies involved will be able to act quickly in a co-ordinated and consistent way to make a swift decision on the most appropriate action needed, enabling them to target interventions at the earliest opportunity and ensuring that vulnerable children and young people are kept safe. Better co-ordination between agencies will also lead to an improved service for children, young people and their families. As one of our Advice and Information Officers, you will be the first point of contact for all callers. You will be expected to gather information both directly on the phone and via information systems to enable the right decision to be made by Decision Makers. Offering advice, support and assistance to children, families and professionals will require the post holder to hold and maintain a wide range of knowledge and information of services and other agencies so that people can be signposted to available relevant resources elsewhere when appropriate. Please refer to the role profile for more details of the role and responsibilities. Working in close collaboration with Social Workers and colleagues from other agencies, the aim is to provide a high quality, professional and proactive service to improve outcomes for children, young people and families. You will be someone who has an interest in working for children and in contributing to a vital service at the forefront of supporting and protecting children in Swindon. You will have experience of working in a customer-focused environment, working to timescales, gathering information, maintaining accurate records, and working closely with others. You will need experience of giving advice and be able to demonstrate understanding of and experience in safeguarding children. If you believe you have the skills, knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to deliver in this exciting role and want to help shape the future of our service for children that is already striving to be the best, we want to hear from you. You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”). As an employee, you will receive a diverse and exciting environment in which to work, encouraging creativity and innovation whilst recognising the need to support ongoing personal development and a flexible work-life balance. For Swindon to thrive in the future, we need to lay the foundations now. It’s why our regeneration and transformation programmes are already underway. So, you’ll be joining us at an exciting time on our journey. We’ll look to you to share your knowledge, influence decisions and drive real, positive change. With your contributions, we’ll achieve our vision of a prosperous, revitalised Swindon together. And you’ll be proud to say it was made better with you. Read the role profile and select the Apply button where you will be redirected to the Swindon Borough Council website to complete our online application process. Clicking the ‘Apply’ button on this job website is not an application; you must register on the Swindon Borough Council website in order to be considered for the role. Potential applicants are sometimes put off if they don’t meet 100% of the requirements. We think individual experience, skills, and passion make all the difference, so if you meet the majority of the criteria, we’d love to hear from you. For further information about the role please contact Amy Burrows, Assistant Team Manager, email aburrows@swindon.gov.uk As an inclusive employer, we welcome applications from a diverse range of communities, and in particular disabled people and people from ethnic minorities. Read our statement of commitment to equality & inclusion.
