Aerodrome Development Lead

From £75,594 + £7,200 flex allowance + Up to 30% Bonus + Benefits

To be the airport for everyone whatever your journey.

The Aerodrome Development Lead is pivotal in driving the seamless delivery of major infrastructure projects across the airfield, directly contributing to Gatwick's growth and performance goals. This role involves leading a diverse array of internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, airlines, and contractors, to ensure the successful execution of these programs. Responsibilities span from planning and construction to operational concepts, communication, and go-live phases, all while maintaining uninterrupted business operations.

What will you do?

Develop Strategic Infrastructure Requirements: Transform theoretical concepts into practical requirements to create detailed scopes for the future development of Gatwick's airfield. This involves thorough analysis and planning to ensure that all infrastructure needs are accurately identified and addressed. Program Workstream Management: Plan and oversee all aspects of program workstreams through collaboration with relevant teams. This includes coordinating tasks, setting timelines, and ensuring that each phase of the program is executed efficiently and effectively. Concept of Operations Definition: Utilize subject matter experts (SMEs) to define and validate the concept of operations for the future use of each asset within the programs. This process includes obtaining necessary regulatory oversight, incorporating feedback, and securing approvals to ensure compliance and operational readiness. Operational Coordination: Collaborate closely with Gatwick's operational teams in Airfield, Air Traffic Control (ATC), and Fire services. Ensure that construction activities and operational readiness efforts are synchronized with these teams to prevent any negative impact on operational traffic and maintain smooth airport operations. Project Delivery Leadership: Lead project delivery teams to ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on time. Represent the programs at relevant approval and update boards, providing clear and comprehensive updates on progress and addressing any issues that arise. Innovative Problem-Solving: Develop creative solutions to maintain the high intensity of Gatwick's airfield operations while managing intrusive construction activities. This involves strategic planning and innovative thinking to minimize disruptions and ensure continuous operational efficiency.

Do you have what we're looking for? Degree in a relevant field, with programme or project management experience, change management skills, programme management training (e.g., APM, MSP), and experience in leading infrastructure programmes/projects in a live operational environment. Demonstrated extensive experience in capital finance, capacity planning, operations, and airline business development. Possesses a deep understanding of the broader business context, including the regulatory environment at London Gatwick. Demonstrated strong leadership skills in managing direct reports and building and leading virtual teams across business units to deliver specific projects. Possesses excellent communication and influencing abilities, making complex issues understandable for wider audiences, and effectively engaging and motivating cross-functional teams of internal staff and external consultants. Commercial expertise to develop compelling business cases, considering all capital and operating costs, revenue streams, productivity opportunities, service and regulatory impacts. Extensive experience in the leadership of large infrastructure programs £50m+. Emotionally intelligent with the ability of managing interpersonal dynamics effectively and with empathy. Strong track record in strategic thinking capability - seeing and exploiting synergies. This might, for example, mean combining infrastructure solutions to solve more than one business challenge. Extensive experience in managing complex stakeholder relationships with internal and external subject matter experts, regulators, airlines, and their handlers.
