Age UK obtained funding as part of Community Mental Health transformation to work jointly with TEWV to provide support for Older people (50+) who are experiencing issues such as loneliness, isolation, lack of motivation, and low mood. The funding for this project has been confirmed, and we are, therefore, looking to appoint a Band 3 Physiotherapy Assistant to join our existing partnership team consisting of Age UK County Durham and TEWV staff. You will be working with the qualified physiotherapist in the team to deliver physiotherapy interventions with people in their own homes and in group settings across the County. We are seeking a motivated, conscientious team player who can think holistically and creatively to deliver interventions for people in their own homes. Main duties of the job To work with service users as delegated by the Registered Physiotherapist in a variety of community settings, including the service user's own home. About us An exciting opportunity has arisen for a competent, confident, and enthusiastic full-time Band 3 Physiotherapy Assistant (fixed term - 12 months) to join our team. The Age UK team works in partnership with the Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) Durham Community Service covering the County Durham area and is located at Belmont Industrial Estate, Durham. This team is a collaboration between Age UK and TEWV and includes staff from both organisations. The team works with people over 50 and their families. The service is managed by Age UK (Durham). TEWV will provide clinical supervision, and you will also have access to Physiotherapy professional support and training. To provide physiotherapy support to service users who have a range of mental health conditions. To engage service users and their carers in therapeutic programmes of care and encourage them in a compassionate manner, to support them in achieving their identified goals and to promote independence and well-being. Works with Registered Physiotherapists, preparing or helping service users to prepare for treatment and assisting in delivering therapeutic interventions designed by others. Works with delegated service users who remain the responsibility of the Registered Physiotherapist, reporting back in a timely and appropriate manner. Provides information and practical advice, within scope of own competency, to service users and carers, demonstrating exercise programmes for them to follow. Participates in health promotion activities. Undertakes administrative tasks in relation to own work and as requested, taking telephone messages, preparing case note files, collating and inputting data, photocopying, and filing. Person Specification Qualifications Relevant NVQ Level 3 in care or equivalent (or willingness to undertake within agreed timescale). Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent). Experience Experience of paid or voluntary work with people with mental health conditions or learning disabilities. Experience working alongside physiotherapists (desirable). Knowledge Awareness of needs of service users with mental health conditions or learning disabilities. Skills Time management and ability to prioritise effectively. Other Ability to travel independently in accordance with Trust policies and service needs.
