Job Description: AI ML Systems Engineer – Digital Product CDT Are you an engineer working in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Autonomous Systems or Robotics? Leonardo is seeking to recruit experienced Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning engineers to join its Electronics UK business. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering leading edge solutions to challenging civilian and military projects. The focus of this role is to conduct research, development and implementation activities in the AI/ML domain as well as help the development of more junior engineers with their skills and knowledge. We are looking for someone passionate about our products, with a systems-thinking approach and proven experience of researching or implementing AI/ML technologies. You will thrive in dynamic environments with the support of a diverse immediate and wider team. Given the nature of the work at this level, we can offer custom working; however, some on-site working is expected. What you’ll do

As an AI / ML Engineer, you will: Contribute to the development, exploitation and implementation of AI / ML technologies and systems. Be a mentor to more junior engineers in the field of AI / ML and ideally on systems engineering or software engineering. Engage widely with various projects, products and stakeholders to understand their needs and how AI / ML technologies could support their work. Understand what lies beyond our black boxes, promoting how digital technologies can be used to improve our systems approach. Collaborate with your peers in similar roles across the UK to promote a culture of continual learning and improvement, acting as a change agent for AI / ML related topics. What we’re looking for

People with experience of and a passion for developing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning solutions. You should have a degree level qualification (or equivalent) in computer science, engineering, physics, mathematics or a similar technical discipline. Due to the nature of the tasks involved, you must be able to satisfy the necessary security clearance for the role and meet a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK. Ideally, we are looking for a senior role, someone with experience of developing and delivering AI/ML solutions, R&D, services or products in an academic or industrial environment. We are looking for the following technical skills, in order of decreasing priority: Strong numerical, analytic and problem-solving skills for algorithm development. Familiarity with common neural network architectures. Good programming skills in Python, MATLAB or C/C++ Strong familiarity with common machine learning frameworks such as Pytorch, Keras/ Tensorflow, Matlab Deep Learning/Machine Learning toolboxes Familiarity with software development lifecycles (Agile) and Dev Ops Strong knowledge of signal processing, image processing, data processing or scientific/ mathematical libraries for numerical computing, simulation or optimisation Knowledge of real-time systems with sensors, internet of things or imaging devices including visible, infrared, Lidar, Radar, radio frequency systems Knowledge of embedded systems, edge computing or cloud computing would be advantageous Knowledge of high-performance computing hardware including parallel computing/multi-processing, GPU acceleration is desirable In addition, the following attributes would be highly desirable: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proven ability to build trust and respect at different levels Tenacity and determination, with a desire to deliver outputs and results Experience in collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders. Experience in product lifecycles Experience of systems engineering methods, tools and processes You must be eligible for full security clearance and may need to satisfy further UK eyes only and ITAR conditions.
