Analytical Chemist Responsibilities Working integrally within the BYK Widnes R&D department, this is a hands-on laboratory based role. Core responsibilities include: Providing analytical chemistry service to the BYK Widnes Technical centre and our global partners. Supporting the Widnes site production in quality incident resolution and stock management. Delivering BYK Widnes raw material approvals. Providing bench chemist support to new product development projects. Leading investigations into existing and new specialised characterisation techniques in areas of novel inorganic materials and formulation science. Involvement in third party collaborations to extend our range of commercially available additives. Reviewing technical literature, attending conferences, and working with academic partners to improve characterisation of existing and new materials to support new R&D projects and meet regulatory challenges. Requirements Manage analytical labs and review, improve and validate existing analytical methods as well as ensure area risk/CoSHH assessments are up-to-date and acted upon. Ensure R&D assets are maintained to a high standard. Product Development Project management, including project initiation, stage gate management, lab work-flow management, and reporting. Oversee raw material management work-flow. Provide technical support to operations, particularly for quality incident resolution. Develop and write new analytical test protocols. Use analytical and statistical tools to provide expert analysis of resulting data. Identify and implement new characterisation tools to improve our ability to develop new products. Provide and maintain detailed wish lists for analytical laboratory capital purchases, including cost, human resource, and business justification. Maintain strong internal relationships and work as part of, or lead multidisciplinary teams with all relevant internal functions globally. Deliver technical reports and updates promptly.
