Regulatory Services Closing Date:

Friday 27th December 2024 A rare temporary opportunity exists for an Animal Health and Welfare Officer to work within the Regulatory Services team in Argyll and Bute. This opportunity, based in Lochgilphead (although this may be flexible based on experience), would ideally suit applicants working in a similar role in other local authorities or agencies, or those with experience applying standards and working in the agricultural sector. The post (working 3 days per week) will work across the area depending on work priorities and will require extensive travel across the area. Ideally, the role will focus on work within the Bute, Cowal, and Helensburgh area, although there will be the need to work across the area to support colleagues and depending on service workload, working with colleagues, other government agencies, and the agricultural sector to secure standards to protect animal health and welfare. Flexibility is essential as there will be occasional early morning or evening work, as well as working other days to cover livestock markets and out-of-hours depending on service demand/emergencies. As this is a re-advertisement, we welcome applications from qualified animal health and welfare officers. However, consideration will be given to applicants with suitable skills and experience working with livestock, to be employed as a Trainee Animal Health and Welfare Officer, or Authorized Officer who would undertake a training program to qualification. The requirements for these posts are set out in the career pathway outlined in the supporting information with salaries (pro-rata of £28,322-£39,436 and £30,257-£32,374 respectively). Applicants should note that: This post is not suitable for job share. This is a temporary post which may be filled on a secondment basis by an employee wishing to gain experience/career development and will be at the discretion of the employee’s director. The salary shown is the full-time equivalent salary; the actual salary will be paid pro-rata for the hours worked.
