Engineering design technicians produce designs and drawings for structures, piping, electrical systems, control and instrumentation systems, and mechanical components used in commercial construction. This apprenticeship is a Thames Water scheme, and you will be based at office locations within project design teams and occasionally work at on-site locations. You are required to understand on-site hazards and health and safety requirements. During your apprenticeship, you will learn how to understand technical drawings and specifications, create your own, identify factors likely to affect design decisions, produce CAD (computer-aided design) & BIM models and engineering drawings, and communicate design information to internal and external parties. Duties typically include: Identify inaccuracies or discrepancies in engineering drawings and specifications and propose solutions. Identify and assess factors that affect designs e.g. materials, application, location, risk, and environment. Design engineering concepts to solve engineering challenges. Develop effective solutions that satisfy the required standards and can be manufactured, proven, operated, and maintained in a cost-effective way whilst minimizing costs. Evaluate engineering designs to determine the most effective solution. Produce detailed engineering drawings to relevant standards and codes, using paper and computer. Check completed drawings for quality, technical compliance, and completeness - both own or those of peers. Communicate and coordinate engineering design options with relevant stakeholders, colleagues, and clients using sketches, schemes, models, detailed drawings, and reports. Typical Working Week: 40 hours per week with a start time between 07:00 & 08:00, inclusive of paid 8 hours at college. Person Specification: Proactive approach, taking pride in their work and accountability for decisions. A love of variety in a role and the ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment. Ability to quickly prioritize tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem-solving. Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams. Ability to analyze and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences. Ability to visit different sites and training days. Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment. Able to understand and follow health and safety protocols. Minimum Requirements: English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 / C or above, or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above. Full UK Driver’s License and access to a vehicle. The role will be based out of Farnborough, but candidates may need to drive in and around London from time to time. Desired Requirements: An individual who is innovative and passionate about engineering design and technology. Ability to produce high-quality technical drawings and designs. Familiarity with CAD software and other engineering design tools. Key Training/College Information: K10 will enroll you in the course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider. The apprenticeship duration is 42 months. Eligibility: Living in England for the last 3 years and have right to work status. Not enrolled in any other courses. 18+ due to site Health & Safety rules.
