Historic England has a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Archive Engagement and Volunteering Officer.

This is a Full Time, 12 month fixed term contract based in Swindon with hybrid working.

What you will be doing We are the nation's Archive of England's historic environment. We commit to be open, relevant, and reflective of all stories so we can better understand the historic environment and how it has shaped our rich and diverse cultural identities.

Using Archive collections, you will create, promote, and deliver a programme of participation and engagement, including volunteer activity, events, and community outreach for the Historic England Archive, supporting Historic England's corporate objectives. You will proactively look for opportunities to share our collections in accessible and inspiring ways with a diverse range of audiences. Working collaboratively and creatively with Historic England Communications and Public Engagement teams, communities, partners, and voluntary/public sector agencies, you will support Historic England's purpose of improving people's lives, raise the profile of the Archive, and promote an appreciation of the historic environment. Who we are looking for Experience in developing and delivering participation and engagement initiatives to a range of audiences, preferably in an archive, museum or heritage context. Experience of volunteer management, preferably in an archive, museum or heritage context. An understanding of the different barriers to cultural and heritage participation, and knowledge of strategies for overcoming them. Experience of effective partnership working with the not-for-profit, culture, and community sectors. Experience of delivering projects which increase digital engagement with collections.
