Aspiring Gang Prevention Support Worker - SEN - Dorking

Company: Academics

Job Type: Long term agency contract: £85-£100 per day

Sector: Education and Training

The School: This is the perfect opportunity for a psychology graduate that is interested in working with neurodiverse children and young people. The school is based in Surrey and provides support for secondary aged pupils who have a wide range of learning and behavioural needs. All students that attend the school have a designated Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) which details their specific needs in terms of the care and support they will have access to. The needs of the students are considered to be mild compared with other special schools in the area.

The school provides a unique, specialist environment that closely fits the needs and challenges that the students face. The school offers a therapeutic curriculum that includes all the subjects that a secondary aged student should expect. Some students will go on to achieve GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications, so at this stage of their education, it is vitally important that they establish a sound understanding of key subjects such as maths and English. Your job will be to support this journey to help them access further education or training.

Key Responsibilities:

Support students with a range of learning needs such as autism, Down's syndrome, speech and language challenges, and social, emotional needs.

Implement effective communication techniques in classes ranging from 6-8 students in size.

Utilize therapy rooms and designated areas for specialist support from therapists including SALTs, Occupational therapists, psychologists, and counsellors.

Provide extensive 1-1 support for every pupil using an Integrated Therapeutic Approach.

Employ specialist communication methods such as Makaton and PECS.

Focus on preparation for GCSE subjects and building a curriculum that works for individual needs.

Assist LSAs in their professional development towards becoming a speech and language therapist.

Minimum Requirements:

A psychology degree or specialist SEN training is highly desirable.

Commitment to supporting students' educational journeys.

Start Date: January 25 - £85 - £100 per day.
