Our mission is to push the boundaries of complex cell analysis. Using the Lightcast platform we are working with major pharmaceutical companies, leading academic institutes, and innovative biotechnology leaders. Together, using our next generation microfluidic platform, we are making advances towards new science, unique clinical approaches, new therapies, and innovative products.

The Lightcast platform allows precise, highly flexible, and massively parallel control of tens to hundreds of thousands of picolitre volume microdroplets using beams of light and powerful software logic. By sequentially combining droplets containing different cells, antibodies, cancer drugs, reporters and /or other reagents, we can perform complex workflows and assays at scale with a flexibility far beyond what is currently possible on any cell analysis platform.

About the role

Lightcast are a life-science startup developing a unique platform for massively parallel processing of single cell assay operations that will revolutionise conventional drug discovery workflows and cell-based research. We are hiring a non-lab based assay data scientist to support our biology team in advancing analysis capabilities in imaging, flow cytometry, automation and statistics.

This role will involve working closely with interdisciplinary teams to support product development and deliver customer projects. With a strong background in complex data interrogation and statistical analysis to support assay development and medium / high throughput screening, the successful candidate will work in collaboration with lab scientists to support development of new applications for drug discovery, drive optimisation and troubleshooting of cell-based assays and carry out custom experimental analysis for specific workflows and collaboration partners.

Key aspects of the role include:

Data Analysis Expertise for Assay Development & Screening:

Designing, optimising, and analysing data from cell-based assays, including imaging and flow cytometry data, to identify hits and measure assay performance.

Data Interpretation & Visualization:

Conducting complex analysis on single cell data and generating actionable insights using statistical methods and visualization tools.

Collaborative Research:

Partnering with cross-functional research teams to develop and validate new instrument applications, providing input into robust experimental design, interrogating data to support interpretation and effectively communicating data-driven results in project meetings.

Mentorship & Training:

Providing guidance and supporting science team members to enhance overall team capabilities in data analysis, statistics and experimental design.

This role requires a data-driven mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex results clearly to a range of stakeholders.

We would expect you to have:

Advanced degree in biological sciences or other relevant field.

Proven track record of developing and applying complex analysis methods to support scientific interpretation of large cell-based screening data sets, including high content imaging and flow cytometry.

Experience in new technology and assay development.

Demonstrated ability to conduct collaborative research and extract insights from datasets using mathematical, statistical, and computational approaches.

Excellent mentorship and guidance skills.

Effective communication skills with a broad range of stakeholders.

It would be advantageous for you to have:

Understanding of drug discovery and experience with analysis of data sets from high to medium throughput cell-based screens.

Previous practical experience or strong knowledge of cell assay development and troubleshooting concepts.

Working knowledge of infectious diseases, neuroscience, and immunology.

Personal Attributes:

Technology-focused. Passionate about developing a career in the biotech industry.

Scientifically curious with a strong attention to detail, a problem-solving mindset and a passion for bringing clarity from complex datasets.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

We offer a generous benefits package including:

26 days holiday, plus Public Holidays

Flexible working hours

Pension contribution matched up to 7%

Private medical insurance

Income protection

Life insurance

Subsidized gym membership and weekly cross fit sessions

Access to Cycle to Work and Technology schemes

Enhanced family leave policies
