The Asset Engineering Manager will manage a diverse team to ensure the effective delivery of the council’s Asset Engineering Service. Managing the highway maintenance, street lighting, and structures teams, as well as leading on the strategies in these areas. The manager will provide strategic direction, oversee various engineering projects, and ensure high standards of performance and customer service. Main Responsibilities Manage the Asset Engineering Service, providing technical advice and ensuring compliance with statutory, national, and local requirements. Develop and implement strategies for highway asset management projects, including street lighting, structures, and highways maintenance teams. Represent the Head of Engineering Services in their absence and contribute to the wider service development. Oversee the recruitment, management, and development of staff, ensuring effective workforce planning and performance management. Manage budgets and resources effectively to deliver service objectives within budget. Liaise with members, senior management, external stakeholders, and the public to provide solutions to complex projects. Ensure the delivery of projects. The Ideal Candidate Holds an engineering-related degree and a professional qualification in a relevant subject, or is able to demonstrate the equivalent through significant industry experience. Demonstrates professional competence and extensive experience in engineering. Has a management qualification or equivalent relevant experience. Is a member of a professional body such as ICE, CILT, or CIHT. Possesses operational management experience in engineering-related services. Has led high-profile innovative projects or policy development with significant impact. Exhibits high resilience, attention to detail, emotional intelligence, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Understands the importance of diverse talent and promotes a positive perception of the service. Is open and transparent in leadership, using feedback to improve and resolve complex issues sensitively.
