Job summary We are looking to recruit a new assistant psychologist in the dementia service here in Shropshire. The post will initially be for one year fixed-term. Our service is undergoing a period of transformation in order to meet the increased demands on dementia services due to an ageing population. The successful applicant will have a minimum 2:1 degree in psychology. You should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to working with older people and/or individuals whose lives have been impacted by dementia. The post requires extensive travel to client's homes and our clinical bases across the county and the successful applicant will be required to demonstrate a viable plan to meet their transport needs sufficient to fulfil their role appropriately. Supervision will be provided to support the post holder and there will be opportunities to contribute to, and participate in, continuing professional development within the dementia service and in the wider Trust. We hope to provide you with a wide variety of experiences across various aspects of mental health services and we have a strong track record in helping assistants move upwards in their careers. Peer support group participation with other assistant psychologists in the care group will be encouraged. We would therefore expect your role to comprise of: Administration and scoring of psychometric tests as part of the diagnostic process for newly referred clients. Supporting our team in the provision of post-diagnostic support for service users and carers. Individual client work under appropriate supervision across all aspects of the service from assessment to adjustment, carer support, behaviours that challenge and end of life care.
