About the role The Assistant Counsel – Compliance will assist the Legal Dept. with administration of various legal compliance and regulatory matters throughout the business, including: tracking of contractual notice and deliverable requirements; filing of licenses, permits, and business qualification materials; preparing contract documentation; processing of dispute resolution matters and investigation materials; development of legal policies and procedures; and performing review of business records to ensure regulatory compliance, with an emphasis on Fair Housing Act compliance. This is a Hybrid/Remote position. You may be eligible for a $500 net sign-on bonus to be paid out in your first paycheck. What you'll be doing Assist with coordination and administration of legal and regulatory compliance activities Assist in the analysis of the Company’s legal agreements to map reporting and notice requirements, as well as other compliance-related covenants. Assist with administration of reporting requirements with respect to lenders, joint venture partners, insurance carriers, and government and other third-party business Assist with tracking, researching, and completing business filings (including renewals) for required licenses, permits, and agency registrations necessary to conduct business operations. Assist with respect to review of Fair Housing Act requests for accommodations/modifications and coordinate responses to field personnel. Assist with processing of resident informal and formal housing-related disputes and settlement communications. Assist with preparation of contracts/service agreements. Assist with development and implementation of legal policies, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements, as well as state and federal law. Assist with tracking of changes in laws and regulations to (i) ensure ongoing compliance and maintain accurate records of laws and regulations relevant to the business unit and company, and (ii) regularly update policies and procedures to reflect changes in laws and regulations as needed. Who we're looking for Juris Doctor (JD) Required Minimum 2 years of experience in legal or compliance roles. Experience in a regulated industry preferred Microsoft Office Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret laws and regulations and apply them to business operations. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining compliance documentation. Ability to develop and implement effective policies, procedures, and processes.
