A little more about your role...

As an Assistant Design Manager at WSP in the PMCM Rail team you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of complex rail projects of regional, national, and international significance. An Assistant Design Manager will be involved in the integration of multi-disciplinary design teams, ensuring project delivery of high-quality, timely, and budget-compliant outcomes.

The team requires individuals who are adaptable in various situations and possess an innovative mindset. You will be willing to take on new challenges and are comfortable in working within significant and complex projects or programmes of work. A background of working with organisations such as Network Rail, HS2, TfGM, and other rail-related organisations will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

Working on large scale projects with significant responsibility. Planning and keeping track of documentation by putting in place appropriate management and assurance controls for design certainty. Being able to manage your time and the wider teams time effectively and efficiently. Ensuring clear communication through collaborating effectively with both internal WSP teams and external stakeholders Assisting the Design Manager in Design Team Meetings (DTMs), taking clear and concise minutes and ensuring timely completion of actions by the design team. Ensuring project management processes are consistently implemented, e.g. change control. Assisting the Design Manager in coordinating relevant disciplines through target led workshops, enabling critical design issues to be targeted and resolved in a timely manner. Dealing with RFIs, early warnings, and general communications to reduce project risk and ensure the project is delivered in a timely manner. Analysing, processing, and responding to design transmittals consisting of drawings, specifications, reports, and other project related documents. Assisting in reviewing and evaluating quotations to ensure they align with the project's scope, budget and client requirements. Managing changes and delays that have affected the project and ensuring these are resolved or mitigated accordingly. Keeping track of meeting discussions. Through making notes, ensuring accurate documentation of discussions, decision and actions for future reference. Updating the design delivery programme, resource, and instructions. Have a thorough understanding of project scope and design responsibility. Package delivery responsibility and reporting directly to the Design Manager.

Qualifications & Experience Degree in relevant design, engineering, or management discipline (such as project or construction management, architecture, science, building or quantity surveying). Membership of a relevant professional body. ARB / RIBA / MICE / MIET / APM / PMI / PRINCE2 / Six Sigma certifications would be advantageous. Contract management experience and/or accreditations would be an advantage. Experience of working in major projects with proven Client-side project delivery (design or construction) Experience with major UK clients in a design consultancy environment. Ability to develop and manage customer and stakeholder relationships, through effective listening and influencing skills. Naturally curious, solution focussed and responsive to client problems. Experience of delivering value-plus/cross selling of services. Where appropriate, prior compliance with appropriate security clearance levels would be an advantage.
