The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and skilled Assistant Director of Finance to provide high-quality financial administration and stewardship within a large and complex organisation. Reporting to the Executive Director of Investment and Innovation, the successful candidate will join the Finance Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of the Council's vision and values through robust financial management. Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Section 151 officer, Corporate Management Team (CMT), elected members, and senior officers to shape and deliver the Council's strategic vision through effective financial leadership. Leading a team of approximately 40 staff, fostering a culture of professionalism and high performance. Managing contracts with key external partners, including external audit providers and financial systems suppliers. Directly managing a service budget of approximately £5m and supporting oversight of the Council's gross expenditure of £982m. Ensuring compliance with all statutory financial regulations and maintaining best practices in public sector finance. Providing expert financial analysis and advice to inform and support decision-making processes. Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished financial leader with: A strong track record of delivering high-quality financial management in a complex organisation. Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop teams to achieve their full potential. Significant experience in managing large budgets and financial systems. Exceptional stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and build trust at all levels. A professional accountancy qualification (e.g., CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) is essential. Full member of CCAB body (preferably CIPFA) with significant post qualification experience.
