About the role The University of Leicester is committed to excellence and innovation in education and research. We are currently seeking an exceptional leader to join our HR Senior Leadership Team as Assistant Director of HR (Strategy, Reward and Operations). This is a pivotal role, reporting directly to the Director of HR, with responsibility for shaping and implementing our People Strategy and delivering sector-leading HR services. You will oversee vital HR functions, including our Recruitment Services and Business Support teams, embedding operational excellence to foster high performance and exceptional employee engagement. You will drive innovation in HR policies, systems, and processes and play a critical role in advancing our digital strategy ensuring alignment with the University’s overarching strategy and values. This role requires operational expertise and strategic vision to ensure the continued delivery of a high-quality HR service. You will deputise for the Director of HR as required and work collaboratively with senior colleagues across the University to achieve positive results, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion in everything we do. About you We are looking for a CIPD-qualified (level 7) professional with substantial experience in HR leadership in the Higher Education sector. You will have significant expertise in the management of large teams, reward processes and HR policy development, as well as experience in partnership working with trade unions and other key stakeholders. Your ability to think strategically and lead teams effectively will be key to your success. You will have excellent communication and influencing skills, with the gravitas to build strong relationships at all levels. A thorough understanding of higher education is essential, with the ability to adapt your leadership to a dynamic and ambitious academic environment.
