The NHS Race and Health Observatory (RHO) is seeking a highly skilled Assistant Director Workforce Advisor to lead our workforce race equality programme. This role is integral to supporting the Observatory's strategic ambitions to address racial and ethnic inequalities in the NHS workforce. About us

The NHS Race and Health Observatory is an independent organisation, set up to identify and tackle ethnic inequalities in access to healthcare, experiences of healthcare, health outcomes, and inequalities experienced by Black and minority ethnic members of the health and care workforce. In doing so, the Observatory addresses aspirations in these areas as outlined in national healthcare policy. It is a proactive investigator, providing strong recommendations that inform policymaking and facilitate change. The Observatory is evidence-driven and solution-focused. The Observatory is hosted by NHS Confederation and supported by NHS England. The Board and team of the Observatory are independent, and it dictates its own direction and areas of focus. The Observatory has three main functions: Facilitating new, high-quality, and innovative research and evidence. Making strategic recommendations for change in policy and practice. Supporting the practical implementation of those recommendations. Job responsibilities

As Assistant Director Workforce Advisor in the NHS Race and Health Observatory, you will: Lead on delivering the Observatory's workforce race equality programme, ensuring projects are robust, timely, and impactful. Use expertise in workforce data analysis and modelling to set measurable improvement targets and inform system and organisational strategies. Oversee the development of resources to support healthcare organisations in closing gaps in ethnicity pay, progression, bullying, and harassment. Provide leadership and strategic direction, setting objectives, coaching team members, and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence. Work with stakeholders across the wider healthcare system, in NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care, and with international bodies, to drive systemic improvements. This role offers a unique chance to work at the NHS Race and Health Observatory, leading transformative projects that aim to improve workforce equity in the NHS. Working closely with the Observatory's Chief Executive, Board members, and senior leaders, you'll shape the future of workforce race equality initiatives and deliver measurable, lasting change. About you

As well as having excellent knowledge of workforce race equality policy and practice in the NHS, you will also be experienced in managing complex projects and working with senior healthcare leaders. You will also: Be skilled in quantitative and qualitative research, workforce data analyses, and modelling. Excel in stakeholder engagement, communication, and working collaboratively. Have a commitment to continuous professional development and thrive in fast-paced environments. Person Specification

Experience

Demonstrable knowledge of contemporary workforce race equality policy, practice and evidence as it relates to the NHS. Proven experience in delivering and/or overseeing the delivery of complex healthcare-related projects and programmes to improve workforce race equality. Experience of working alongside senior healthcare leaders, NHS staff, academics and analysts professionals. Demonstrable expert knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, data analytics and workforce modelling, research commissioning and management. Proven experience of programme management, including management of allocated budget spend. Proven experience of establishing and leading on national work with specific experience on initiatives to improve workforce race equality. Ability to work autonomously without supervision, making decisions or requesting management support as appropriate. Ability to prioritise workload effectively within a fast-paced and pressured environment, and work to strict deadlines. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
