Assistant Engineer

or

Engineer

to join our busy Development Infrastructure team. This full-time role is based in our Ipswich office and can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times. Working as part of a team, you will be developing innovative solutions to today’s global challenges. Delivering sustainable designs that serve the needs of society today and into the future, through the provision of integrated multi-disciplinary consultancy services to our Clients. You will be working on a variety of projects, including residential, energy, and commercial sector development schemes from inception through detailed design and on into construction. In particular, we have some fantastic local, large-scale energy infrastructure projects. What does the role involve? Working as part of the Development Infrastructure team on a variety of projects in the residential, energy, and commercial sectors, you will act as an Assistant Engineer or an Engineer to undertake and check the delivery of design solutions and coordinate with other disciplines. You will be involved in projects from conception to completion, including supporting the Project Manager to clarify the project brief, agree deliverables, key milestones, project methodology; undertaking elements of the detailed design and the checking of outputs as directed: e.g. calculations, models, drawings, sketches, reports etc. to achieve the optimum solution for the project; assessing, documenting and communicating design changes to the Project Manager. You will take ownership and responsibility for the quality of work you produce, ensuring that work is delivered in line with the agreed timescales and ensuring you understand and comply with our Company Integrated Management system and all relevant health and safety legislation. You will continue to learn from experienced people who share a passion for working together with our clients to deliver technical excellence. As you develop, you will be given the opportunity to work more independently. This is an exciting time to join Sweco, and if you want to be part of a company that is small in all the best ways but large enough to provide a diverse and exciting workload, this job is for you. To be successful in this role you’ll have: A desire to work in a team, and a great attitude - collaboration will come naturally to you. An academic qualification, such as a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent. Ideally this will be accredited by the Engineering Council so we can help you work toward a professional qualification with the ICE. Some relevant post-qualification engineering design experience and project delivery in residential, energy, and commercial sectors. This could be either pre-planning services or post-planning detailed design experience. To be considered for the Engineer post, a minimum of two years’ post-graduate experience would be expected. Experience in civil engineering infrastructure modelling software - ideally Civil 3D, although this isn’t essential, or other comparable software (e.g. PDS, OpenRoads, etc.). Some AutoCAD experience is essential. Experience of drainage design tools, such as InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage, or Flow. A working knowledge of MS Office 365 tools. Some experience of helping to provide resource or commercial management on projects. Strong analytic and problem-solving skills and an interest in finding quick, innovative, and practical solutions. The ability to organise and prioritise your workload to ensure that project timescales are met. The ability to travel to sites and offices within the UK when required; a driving license would be helpful but not essential to the role. What’s in it for you? From the moment you join us, you will receive the training you need. You’ll be embedded directly into a team that cares about you because we know we can’t succeed individually unless we succeed as a team. Due to our open structure, there will also be ample opportunities for upward progression for those who show the right aptitude. You will be assigned a workplace mentor, who will guide you to meet the objectives for your professional training agreement. We will support you on your journey to gaining professional recognition with your chosen institution. If you believe you have the skill set required and are keen to join a business with genuine opportunities for career progression, then we’d love to hear from you.
