Purpose To improve performance of athletes in a safe and positive environment, reflecting our values of inclusion, excellence and nurturing.

Role summary As REN96’s Assistant Head Coach, you will be responsible for working with the Head Coach to deliver the 3-year plan for REN96 that aims to improve the swimming programme across all squads. You will lead this initiative within the Development and Inclusivity (D&I) section of the club.

Your primary focus will be coaching squads within the D&I section, with the opportunity to concentrate your efforts where you can make the biggest impact.

Additionally, you will lead the D&I coaching team to deliver a holistic, balanced, and enjoyable programme that supports our swimmers. You will devise a programme, in conjunction with the Head Coach, that takes swimmers from Learn to Swim (LTS) to the Age Group squads, while also catering to those who wish to engage in swimming recreationally.

Main functions and duties

Support the Head Coach in developing and delivering a three-year plan and annual revisions for Committee approval.

Lead by example to all swimmers and coaches.

Provide quality coaching programmes tailored to all athletes within the D&I section.

Assist athletes in achieving their full potential.

Coordinate the D&I coaching team and support assistant coaches and helpers.

Ensure all squads have suitably qualified coaches.

Establish a coaching development plan.

Maintain a sustainable coaching schedule that promotes work/life balance for the coaching team.

Enable clear, progressive development paths for athletes and coaches, providing regular feedback on progression.

Promote sound ethics and club policies, including Wellbeing & Protection, fair play, and equal opportunities for all members.

Attend and supervise swimmers at competitions.

Maintain links with the Learn to Swim Programme to create a clear pathway to the club.

Ensure the D&I coaching team keeps accurate records of attendance and relevant documentation.

Complete any other necessary activities to ensure the smooth running and successful improvement of the club.

Attend relevant training and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) as required.
