On behalf of UKRI, we are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant (Inside IR35) for a contract ending March 2025 based in Swindon (1 day per week, remainder WFH/remote). They work across a huge range of fields - from biodiversity conservation to quantum computing, and from space telescopes to innovative health care. As an Assistant Management Accountant, your main responsibilities will be: Build & maintain good working relationships with colleagues & partners and provide input and advice where needed to assist in the resolution of queries, & to share new ways of working. Support finance issues in relation to operating expenditure, working closely with FBPs and Budget Holders to ensure that expenditure is in line with the forecast position and major financial risks are effectively managed. Support the Finance Business Partners (FBP's) & Management accountants, deputising for them as and when required. Provide constructive ideas for improvement in processes & procedures that would deliver efficiencies & service enhancement. Responsible for supporting the month end process in-line with agreed reporting procedures including accruals and prepayments, recharges & counter-parties, and any other applicable accounting adjustments; communicating any key timelines as necessary. Prepare month-end reports and analysis to support budget managers & FBP's in their day-to-day decision making; highlighting any issues or concerns as appropriate. Provide other periodic and ad hoc reports, financial information and commentary as required. Collaborate closely with the financial accounting team on the monthly cash flow. Keep up to date with all relevant accounting developments that have a potential impact on your role and UKRI finance & accounting in general. Essential: Experience of working in a Finance environment, in similar management accounting, budgeting & forecasting role(s). Experience of financial modelling & controls. Good IT skills, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Excel. Good organisational skills, able to manage and prioritise own workload and meet deadlines in a timely manner. Able to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Strong numeracy & analytical skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Desirable: Previous experience of Oracle, or of similar ERP accounting systems. Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
