Excellent administration/secretarial skills and audio-typing skills are vital, as well as a good understanding of customer relations since regular contact is required to deal with queries from patients, consultants, and GPs. You will be responsible for typing clinical and administrative letters, answering telephone enquiries, general administration tasks, as well as covering the Medical Secretaries during periods of absence. The successful candidate will be required to work well under pressure, with the ability to prioritise the demands of a busy office and manage their time and workload effectively. You will also be required to work unsupervised and communicate with the Ophthalmology Consultants on a regular basis. A good, accurate typing speed is essential, and a knowledge of medical terminology would be an advantage. You will work closely with clinical and non-clinical staff with a patient centric approach.
