Purpose of the role: The Assistant Night Transport Manager supports the Night Transport Manager, ensuring the successful movement of UK and International product, in and around the UK to our customers, suppliers and sites. The Assistant Night Operations Manager supports the overall operation, including cost and service.
Main duties and responsibilities
What you do: Support with the Transport Budget and the Service Levels for each contract. Support the sites ensuring deliveries are loaded and unloaded accurately, including Fork Truck loading and unloading. Carry out site security procedures and checks as and when required. Complete ad hoc vehicle checks to ensure pre checks are being completed and additional equipment required is serviceable. Support with training to include scheduling and record keeping of mandatory training. Support with booking in vehicle and FLT maintenance as scheduled. Report support to management on results and ensuring follow-up action where required. Support for incident and accident control and preparing paperwork for any regulatory bodies, ensuring completion of accident investigations and H&S Documents on H&S System. Liaise with and manage staffing schedules to customer requirements. Support any changes to delivery routes and schedules when required. Identify and proactively book agency cover when required. Support with agency cost control and approve timesheets when required. Assist with the network transport operation out of hours. Support all administration, customer quotes, invoicing and operating IT systems and processes for each customer. Assist with vehicle and driver compliance, reviewing telematics and ensuring infringements are actioned in a timely manner. Support with stock inventory and report any losses immediately. Support with cost reduction for the operation, especially sub-contracting, while maintaining service levels. Monitor drivers' hours, holidays, and rest days. Support with colleague recruitment for skilled colleagues, keeping labour turnover to a minimum. Carry out driving assessments up to Class 2. Support with proactive recovery planning. Train all drivers and porters on individual contract-specific requirements, including key access and site surveys. Regularly accompany drivers and porters to assist with training and risk assessments. Fill in for any driver or porter should the need arise. Step up and cover for the Night Transport Manager during absence.

Person specification
Must have: A good level of literacy and numeracy. Knowledge of current transportation and health and safety regulations. IT skills (Microsoft Office and Warehousing Systems) to a good standard. An understanding of current health and safety regulations. Understanding of basic employment law. A flexible approach to work with the ability to adapt to changing demands (including shift patterns). Basic understanding of route planning/optimisation. Valid Class 2 Driving Licence with up-to-date CPC Card. Valid FLT licence.
Shift pattern: Sunday-Thursday between 22:00-07:00hrs
Salary:
up to £45k per annum
