Hours : 24 hours per week | A full-time position could be considered on a shorter contract length

About the Assistant Paper Conservator role :

We are looking for an Assistant Paper Conservator with a recognised paper conservation degree to join our busy and dynamic paper conservation team. You will be keen to develop your expertise in this specialism. You will be self-motivated and a good team player with a passion for conservation and will be able to communicate this to our wide range of audiences.

The post-holder will work on a wide range of paper-based objects that reflect the global diversity of the NMS collections. The emphasis will be on practical conservation treatments, preparing objects for display, loans, and storage.

As an Assistant Paper Conservator at National Museums Scotland you will :

Apply expert specialist conservation knowledge to National Museums’ conservation programmes Work closely with exhibition, curatorial, and other key sectors in the museum, normally under guidance, to provide the conservation necessary to ensure that deadlines for exhibition and display are met Support the Paper Conservators and Principal Conservator Paper & Textiles Implement supervised conservation research and experimentation projects to develop knowledge and best practice. Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Assistant Paper Conservator :

A relevant degree in paper conservation or relevant experience in a similar role Theoretical understanding of material issues and treatments Able, practical conservator Good documentation and reporting skills.
