Our client is an independent garden centre business looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Horticultural Retailer.

You will be responsible for: Working within and driving the existing, unique trading model. Maintaining strength of value message - Price Buster, Lowest Price, WOW, Plant of the Month. Driving the selling activity for plants, pots, compost, and landscaping ranges. Achieving the agreed targets and taking appropriate action to correct if targets are missed. Managing the incoming stock, getting it out swiftly and presenting it well to sell quickly. Managing the external team to ensure they all perform to a high standard. Ensuring the team have appropriate work lists and achieve what is expected. Ensuring all members of the team are highly productive and fully occupied at all times. Conducting the necessary staff coaching and training to develop the individuals. Ensuring all staff present themselves in a Company uniform & PPE at all times in a clean & tidy manner. Ensuring all trading checks are completed at the agreed frequency. Managing daily breaks and lunches to ensure external area sales cover. Ensuring the quality of all the stock within the department is maintained and rotated. Ensuring the stock is maintained in a clean, tidy, healthy, weed-free, and undamaged state. Managing and recording wastage according to the guidelines laid down. Monitoring off-take from reserves and responding to looking good and availability lists. Preparing orders for stock to meet the expected level of trade. Merchandising and displaying stock according to the agreed principles. Undertaking stock takes. Creating impulse, seasonal, promotional, themed, and linked displays, as appropriate. Requesting point of sale material and putting it out to ensure all displays are fully supported. Proactively serving and helping customers in need of assistance, resolving queries/complaints. Actively selling other goods encouraging link sales and up-sales wherever possible. Offering specific service and advice to customers on all gardening related enquiries. Ensuring that all display equipment is maintained to a professional standard. Taking and processing customer orders and then advising customers on receipt of the goods. Ensuring all tasks are carried out in a timely manner. Maintaining discipline amongst the team. Being responsible for opening and closing the centre as needed. Performing the role of Deputy Manager when on rota to do so (see separate job description). Undertaking any other reasonable tasks requested by the Directors. Completing all necessary paperwork in an accurate and timely manner. Working in other departments on a temporary basis if and when required to do so.
