HB Public Law, one of the country’s leading shared local authority legal practices, has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic lawyer to support the management of our expanding Criminal Litigation and Regulatory Team. HB Public Law is an innovative and ambitious Lexcel accredited legal practice serving four local authority clients, schools and other public bodies in London and the home counties. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to play an important role in shaping the redesigned Criminal Litigation and Regulatory Team, supporting the Principal Lawyer to expand it in size and take on new work areas. The role offers varied, high quality work, with supportive colleagues who are dedicated to public service and making a difference in local communities. The successful candidate will be expected to help develop a high performance culture within the team and support career progression and developing public sector lawyers of the future. About You

The successful candidate will have experience of local authority prosecution and other regulatory work, and be passionate about helping to manage the team to achieve positive outcomes. You will be expected to personally undertake matters of a more complex nature, with political awareness and sensitivity as required. You will support the Principal Lawyer to lead the team on matters including: Advising on and prosecuting regulatory and fraud offences, including appeals and judicial review Advising on licensing matters, including advising elected members at committee meetings, defending statutory appeals and advising on enforcement Advice to tackle anti-social behaviour and community tensions, such as the use of Public Spaces Protection Orders and other community orders Policy advice, including attending formal member meetings, on regulatory matters Other regulatory litigation work, commensurate with the skills of the team, including court and tribunal advocacy You will also be expected to support client liaison arrangements and foster excellent working relationships amongst the team and between clients and lawyers. You will also play a role in the wider development of HB Public Law. Although the legal practice works in a hybrid fashion, and so daily office attendance is not expected, you will be expected to work from our Harrow office at least one to two days per week, and/or at client offices and court when required.
