We are looking to recruit a band 4 Assistant Psychologist to join the Adult Forensic Psychology Service within Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear Foundation NHS Trust. The Adult Forensic Psychology Team within Secure Care provides recovery-focused psychological services (including assessment, formulation and interventions) to mentally disordered offenders across mental health, learning disability and personality disorder pathways, both within in-patient and community settings. This role is to support psychological provision across our medium and low secure inpatient forensic mental health and learning disability wards at Northgate Park. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have a Psychology degree (2:1 or above) and should have experience of working with people with mental health difficulties/learning disability/personality disorder/or other disabilities. Experience of working with forensic populations is desirable. Job responsibilities

Contribute to specialist assessment across a broad range of risks and clinical need. Support the development of clear and collaborative formulations with service users, carers and staff which guide interventions to assist the service user with their recovery and progress through their care pathway. Contribute to the development and evaluation of training within Secure Care. Engage collaboratively with colleagues in devising and undertaking research activity aimed at further improving services, including clinically related administration, data collection, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. Receive clinical supervision from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist / Senior Psychologist within the team. Maintain effective relationships with colleagues from different disciplines within the inpatient setting, ensuring effective and responsive pathways for service users. Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

2nd class honours degree, or higher, in psychology. Eligibility for graduate membership of British Psychological Society. Knowledge and Experience

Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities in any setting. Knowledge of evidence-based practice. Knowledge and awareness of social inequalities, difference and diversity. Recognition of how ethical principles and values relate to work with clients in respect of culture and diversity backgrounds. Experience of working with a forensic client group. Skills and Competencies

High level of communication skills (written and oral), including an ability to communicate and work in highly emotive circumstances. Willingness and ability to reflect on own beliefs, values, and culture and its impact on clients. Ability to communicate sensitive information to clients, carers, and colleagues. An ability to understand the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems and other disabilities. Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health / cognitive impairment / disability context. Computer literate, including use of databases and data analysis e.g. SPSS. Demonstrates graduate-level knowledge and experience of research and research methodology. An understanding of psychology applied to healthcare. Personal Characteristics

An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines. An ability to interact appropriately with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities and/or those who have experienced social inequalities and marginalisation. Ability to work reliably and consistently on tasks agreed and managed at regular intervals by a supervisor. Additional Requirements

Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively. Ability to manage own stress in difficult conditions and to identify when additional personal support may be necessary. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
