An exciting permanent full-time vacancy has arisen for a suitably motivated individual to join our busy team. You will be a caring and dedicated individual who has excellent communication skills. Ideally, you will have had previous experience of working in a clinical setting or a customer care environment. Required qualifications:

GCSE grade 4 or above (new GCSE grades) or C or above (old GCSE grades) in Maths/English and Science or equivalent and/or NVQ level III in science/healthcare related subject or equivalent level/experience. The Respiratory Physiology team is based within the Respiratory Centre at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, with a Community Diagnostic Centre at Cannock Chase Hospital. Both laboratories provide a wide range of diagnostic services. The post holder will be primarily based at Cannock Chase Hospital, working in the delivery of Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) respiratory diagnostic tests. There will be a requirement for cross-site working, occasionally working at New Cross Hospital. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to perform a range of duties which include simple diagnostic tests, supporting clinics, quality control, equipment issue & maintenance. You will also be required to assist with maintaining a stock room and the ordering of consumable items. You will also have an important role with infection prevention, ensuring testing rooms and equipment are cleaned and maintained for use by patients and staff. It would be desirable for you to be an ARTP accredited spirometry practitioner, or have previous experience in measuring spirometry/basic lung function; however, training will be provided. We will be looking for an individual who wishes to develop their clinical knowledge and skills to progress further within the profession. About us

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be required to assist in all clinical aspects and the running of an efficient diagnostic outpatient facility. The Lung Function department is very proactive and focused on the delivery of the best patient experience. The post holder will undertake spirometry testing as well as other basic lung function measurements. This includes the issue and downloading of sleep study equipment. Undertake/perform Spirometry with interpretation. Undertake basic sleep diagnostic setup and downloading (e.g. Overnight Oximetry and Polygraphy). Support Respiratory Physiologists with advanced procedures. Provide accurate results on all procedures listed above for interpretation by more senior colleagues. Develop and maintain knowledge and clinical skills. Assist in other procedures performed within the Lung Function department and local health economy. Support the clinical lead in the overall delivery of patient-focused services. Support the clinical lead in the routine management and administrative functions of the department. Assist in the purchase of consumables and equipment and monitoring of stock levels of the department. Ensure that data is collected accurately and in a timely manner. Propose changes to existing procedures within their area for the improvement and development of the service. Implement any new policies, procedures, and SOPs within own area. Undertake a personal development programme. Undertake Trust mandatory training on an annual basis, or as and when required. Undertake additional training in order to perform duties of the post. Adopt a professional and flexible approach to the needs of the Respiratory Department and those of the Trust. Use and maintain information systems. Undertake other appropriate duties as requested. Keep senior staff informed of all matters, which may affect the functioning of the service. Maintain confidentiality of all information obtained and disclose this information only to authorised officers. Be familiar and adhere to all trust policies and procedures as they relate to the role. Qualifications

IT Skills - Microsoft Office particularly Access. Good Customer care skills. Previous experience working in a healthcare setting. Previous experience of Respiratory Physiology testing. Experience of dealing with difficult situations. Basic knowledge and understanding of the function of the lungs. Good verbal and written communication skills. Deal with the public in a professional manner. Flexibility
