We are looking to appoint an exceptional Associate Chief Nurse Safeguarding (ACNS). This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, dynamic, and innovative safeguarding professional to join the Corporate Nursing team as part of the single corporate service across Isle of Wight Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals Trust.

This role will provide Trust-wide strategic leadership as part of the single corporate service across Isle of Wight Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals Trust, reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer and Deputy Chief Nursing Officer. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the trust-wide senior nursing team. You will ensure the Trust meets its obligations under the Children Act 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, Safeguarding Assurance and Accountability Framework 2022, Care Act 2014, regulatory remits of the CQC, and other relevant legislation and guidance to ensure the Trust provides safe, effective, and well-led services, in line with the Trust values which safeguard people at risk.

Main duties of the job You will build effective and productive relationships with partner organisations and our communities, define a safeguarding strategy that reflects the national and local agendas, and provide professional guidance and support to colleagues regarding best practice.

You will have a proven track record of delivering leadership within safeguarding and will take a strategic and professional lead in respect of this agenda for both children and adults. You will lead and support all activities necessary to ensure that we meet our responsibilities to our patients and carers.

With well-developed expertise in driving continuous quality improvement, you will be able to demonstrate the ability to engage staff at all levels, promoting collaborative working to achieve outcomes.

Job responsibilities

Provide a Trust-wide strategic lead on behalf of the Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Nurse to ensure the Trust meets its obligations under the Children Act 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, Safeguarding Assurance and Accountability Framework 2022, Care Act 2014, regulatory remits of the CQC, and other relevant legislation and guidance.

Support the Trust's active participation in multi-agency partnership work across the region.

Lead the children's, adults, maternity, and mental health safeguarding functions, providing leadership and direction to Named Professionals.

Be a core member of the single corporate service senior nursing team within the organisation and deputise or cross-cover as required for the Deputy Chief Nurse or the Divisional Directors of Nursing.

Ensure robust processes are in place to enable the Trust to participate in case reviews.

Lead, mentor, and develop your team.

Ensure the development, implementation, and monitoring of infrastructures and policies reflective of local multi-agency policies.

Provide expert-level knowledge, leadership, and professional advice in relation to safeguarding children and adults at risk.

Manage all budgets for safeguarding, including the identification of savings and efficiencies.

Promote the Trust's Safeguarding Service at national conferences and events.

Person Specification Qualifications

1st Level Registered nurse on the relevant part of the NMC Register.

First degree or equivalent.

MBA / MSc in a relevant subject and evidence of recent further professional development.

Specialist experience/training relating to adults/children at risk.

Evidence of management/leadership development.

Experience

Extensive experience in the acute healthcare setting in senior clinical leadership and clinical service management positions.

Extensive knowledge of National and Local NHS and N&M agenda.

Extensive experience in a safeguarding role.

Report writing skills and experience.

Ability to deal with confidential issues in a professional and sensitive manner.
