An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Resuscitation training department for a full-time band 5 Associate Resuscitation Officer based at Royal Cornwall Hospital. The successful applicant will be an experienced, skilled and enthusiastic health professional with demonstrable involvement and interest in resuscitation practice, education and/or the care of deteriorating patients.

Experience in an acute or critical care environment is essential. A substantial proportion of the role will be delivery of life support training to all grades of staff and you will therefore need to have proven teaching/assessing skills and hold an Immediate life support certificate or have progressed to Instructor status.

Main duties of the job

Support the Senior Resuscitation Officers in the organisation, implementation of the Resuscitation service across the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. Assist in the planning, organisation and delivery of the national resuscitation courses. Teach on and develop level 1 educational resuscitation training programmes, assist in their delivery and monitor training carried out. Assist in producing reports for a range of resuscitation related audit programmes within the trust. Act as a professional role model, having a supportive role in education and research, for staff across all multidisciplinary groups. On rare occasions, following training (attainment of ALS), attend cardiac arrests and other emergency calls in order to maintain practical and clinical skills. Assist with the provision and checking of resuscitation training equipment and clinical resuscitation equipment. Have relevant clinical experience in the field of emergency care and demonstrate continuing professional development in a range of resuscitation specialities.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Current Professional Registration Current ILS Provider Evidence of post registration study at degree level (or working towards degree)

Desirable Current ILS/AIM Instructor Possession of teaching qualification e.g. Cert ED or equivalent Bachelors Degree in a health related subject

Experience

Essential Previous/recent experience of working in an acute NHS care setting (eg ED/AMU/CCU) Competent in Basic Level Life Support (BLS) and use of Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Experience of practical application of resuscitation in hospital setting delivering high quality CPR

Desirable Teaching Resuscitation Skills Teaching Experience Ongoing Experience of practical application of resuscitation in an acute setting delivering high quality CPR

Practical & Intellectual Skills

Essential Able to communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team Knowledge of current Resuscitation Guidelines Good IT knowledge & Computer Literacy

Desirable Ability to teach and facilitate learning in both clinical and classroom settings Experience of assessing competence and level of understanding

Disposition/Adjustment/Attitude

Essential Ability to build rapport and credibility with a range of clinical teams and learners Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with an outgoing, professional and confident manner Enhanced interpersonal skills to handle group facilitation and one to one coaching
