Role overview

The Audit Manager role is a varied and rewarding role that is guaranteed to develop and grow your business partnering, commercial finance skills along with your ability to lead and manage a high performing team. As a leading member of the Audit team, your ability to build strong working relationships, supervise teams, assign tasks and maintain quality and adherence to audit standards will be crucial to our success in enabling our clients to safeguard their controls and compliance and ultimately add commercial value to their businesses. This role can be based in Edinburgh or any of our offices located in the Borders. Key Responsibilities

Plan and oversee the execution of audits

Collaborate with the Audit Team and Partners to develop audit plans considering organisational objectives, risks, and regulatory requirements. Help to define the broader audit objectives, scope and various methodologies for different audits. Coordinate with stakeholders to understand their expectations and align audit plans accordingly. Draft audit quotes and assist the Audit Partner with client tenders and information. Identify potential risks with the audit strategy and help to develop strategies to mitigate them. Establish audit timelines and allocate resources effectively. Help to shape our audit procedures and testing methodologies to ensure we maintain a connected and consistent management approach to our audit practice and coverage. Lead and supervise Audit Controllers at Audit Senior and Junior Manager levels, ensuring we meet our timelines and quality standards. Carry out detailed analysis of financial statements, internal controls and operational processes. Analyse audit findings across a cross section of completed audits, identify any weaknesses or risks with internal controls and provide actionable recommendations.

Team leadership and development

Help to build a high performing audit team by recruiting, developing, engaging and mentoring Audit controllers at the Audit Senior and Junior Manager levels. Assess strengths and assign work to Audit Controllers accordingly and ensure their adherence to audit standards and protocols. Provide guidance and support to the audit teams throughout all live audits. Conduct progress reviews and evaluations with audit team members and provide constructive feedback that will support their personal and professional development. Create a positive and inclusive working environment within the audit team, promoting knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and teamwork throughout each assignment.

Client relationship management

Build and maintain professional relationships with clients by fully understanding their business processes and industry specific challenges. Communicate audit objectives, scope and progress to clients and maintain open communication with the Audit Partner during the audit processes. Acknowledge and seek to resolve client complex audit questions, concerns, and requests promptly. Conduct or oversee complex and high-profile audits. Provide specialist technical audit expertise and support where required to internal and external clients.

Continuous improvement

Maintain up to date knowledge of the latest accounting and auditing standards, regulations, and industry best practices. Apply your technical knowledge to assess the appropriateness of accounting treatments and financial disclosure. Continuously enhance your professional skills through learning and development, certifications, and self-directed learning. Act as an Audit ambassador with your general practice colleagues and new employees joining the firm. Help with marketing events and activities and network to develop relationships with potential audit clients. Participate in quarterly audit committee meetings designed to continually improve the audit experience for both clients and the audit team.

Our Ideal Candidate will be

Experienced : Ideally, you’ll be fully qualified and/or have 1-2 years’ experience working within a similar role at Management level within an accountancy practice. Strong computer skills would be an advantage. Communicative : You’ll be a genuine people person with excellent communication skills. You listen actively, articulate complex information, and build trust with a diverse portfolio of clients. You will be used to putting the client needs first, providing a quality experience and actioning effective solutions as soon as possible. Collaborative : You’ll be a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment and is willing to share knowledge, support colleagues and be happy to work as part of a team to tight deadlines. Adaptable : You’ll be comfortable with change and excited by the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You are open to new ideas and continuously seek ways to improve.
