Humber’s Autism Mental Health Support Team aims to enhance support for autistic adults and their families/carers during mental health crises. We are recruiting two band 6 specialist practitioners to this specialist team. One permanent, full time practitioner post and one part time secondment post (22.5hrs) for 10-12 months. There may be the potential to increase the secondment post to full time hours. This post is open to applicants from nursing, social work and AHP backgrounds. This role will predominantly involve working closely with mental health teams within the unplanned care sector to support their work with autistic service users. This will include attending MDTs regularly to develop consistent working, offering support around care planning, sharing learning and support around specific issues to ultimately support the service user’s recovery. The post holder will work to professional and regulatory body codes, standards and guidance at all times ensuring that their practice is grounded in evidence based theoretical and practical knowledge. Main duties of the job
Core Functions To utilise specialist clinical skills to support, train and coach mental health teams in their work with autistic clients to promote recovery. To work independently, without direct supervision, prioritising workload and responding to service demands in a timely way. To recognise the need for and initiate where appropriate, advice of relevant specialisms. To liaise closely with members of the MDT within the team and wider services to ensure the right support is being offered to autistic service users. To employ excellent communication skills, both verbal and written to promote multi-disciplinary and interagency liaison and collaborative practice to broad range of audiences, including other professionals. To continuously evaluate the clinical effectiveness of the service by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures and participate in the development of the service. To maintain knowledge of current research and clinical developments, to participate in research/audit within service and to take part in relevant training to support the role. Qualifications and Knowledge
Full understanding of relevant policy, legislation and guidance relevant to this sector. Educated to degree level or equivalent as required for registration with professional body. Registered with appropriate clinical professional body. Member of specialist interest group/network, regionally or nationally. Good working knowledge of relevant IT systems to own area of work. Able to enable effective communication approaches to non-face to face situational environments e.g. phone, video, email or remote consultation. Experience
Demonstrable experience of working with neurodiversity. Experience of training patients/carers and other healthcare staff. Be able to effectively Chair meetings. Evidence of suitable post-registration professional practice, in hospital or other healthcare setting. Experienced in recognising signs of neurodiversity in those who haven’t been diagnosed and signposting to relevant services. Skills and competence
Able to communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, colleagues and carers. Able to work as part of a wide ranging team. Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity. Experience in supervising and mentoring and teaching.
