Full-time, Term-time only Academics are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Autism Support Worker to provide support to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a Primary School setting in Croydon. About the Role
As an Autism Support Worker, you will work closely with children with ASD to support their learning, development, and emotional well-being within the school environment. You will work one-on-one with children or in small groups, helping them to access the curriculum, manage social situations, and develop key life skills. This is a hands-on, rewarding role that requires patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting children with special needs. Key Responsibilities
Provide one-to-one and small group support for children with ASD. Assist in the development and implementation of individualised learning plans (IEPs). Support students with communication, social, and behavioural challenges in a positive and nurturing manner. Encourage participation in classroom activities and promote inclusion within the school setting. Help children to build independence and self-confidence. Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to ensure each child's needs are met. Monitor and record children's progress, providing feedback to parents and staff as required. Ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times. Requirements
Experience working with children with Autism or special educational needs (SEN). Knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and how it affects children's learning and behaviour. A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children. Ability to adapt and modify teaching methods to suit individual needs. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Team player with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and external professionals. A flexible and positive attitude, with a passion for supporting children with special needs. A relevant qualification in Education, Health, or Social Care (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
