The R&D Tax Team at Azets is growing, and we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced tax professional to join in Scotland. We support clients of all sizes and scales, from start-ups to large corporates, across all sectors, including manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, software, and digital technologies.

As the team grows and with further ambitious growth plans in place, we are looking for someone who is passionate about the innovation reliefs available and wants to make a meaningful impact on their clients and colleagues.

The opportunity is for someone seeking a role at Senior Manager – Director level; we care more about finding the right person than a job title.

The opportunity

As a Senior Manager at Azets, you will have the ability and motivation needed to:

  • Manage your own portfolio and assist in the running of your section and have an input to workflow planning.
  • Consistently bring opportunities and work to the Group.
  • Deliver revenue and profitability targets.
  • Develop and inspire our smarter people plan.
  • Work closely with the Head of Scotland and wider team (based across Scotland) to deliver exceptional client service and deliverables.
  • Help drive our market presence and support new business opportunities through your existing network, with time dedicated to expand this and support further growth in the service line.
  • Oversee project deliverables, ensuring they meet high standards and are completed on time.
  • Ensure appropriate processes and infrastructure are in place to support a growing team.
  • Support the training and development of junior team members, shadowing on-the-job training and proactively identifying requirements and developing solutions as required.
  • Support in the preparation and review of R&D tax relief claims and, if experience permits, Patent Box claims.
  • Provide strategic tax advice and identify opportunities for tax savings in collaboration with the wider client team.

What are we looking for?

  • BSc or MSc in a scientific or technical degree.
  • Substantial experience in preparing R&D tax credit claims, including both the technical and financial elements.
  • Exposure to clients in a range of sectors and of varying size.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing a portfolio of R&D clients and supporting others in developing their skills and responsibilities with portfolio management.
  • Excellent technical knowledge; the ability to carry out research into complex areas of tax legislation and support others in their development.
  • Strong leadership experience across a team, ideally disparately located.
  • The ability to build meaningful relationships with clients and experience of leading R&D claim proposals.
  • Relevant professional qualification, for example CA, ACA and/or CTA, beneficial but not essential.
