37.5hrs a week – varied 7.5 hour shifts between the hours of 07:30am-8pm / 5 days a week. The Role: Collecting, processing, and preparing clinical samples for testing in line with infection control protocols. Supporting infection prevention and control measures by following standard operating procedures for handling specimens and preventing contamination. Keeping up to date with changes in infection control practices, laboratory procedures, and advancements in the field of microbiology or infection science. Rotate through all areas of the laboratories as required and maintain high professional standards. Perform Biomedical investigations, within operating procedures and protocols, to provide within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of senior grade BMS grade staff. Utilise the laboratory LIMS, Q-Pulse quality monitoring system and other application software according to authorised protocols including assisting in computer data entry in all areas of the laboratory. Provide supervision, training and professional leadership to junior staff which includes monitoring their performance against laboratory standards and their training plans. What we’re looking for: Relevant NVQ Level 3 with applied theoretical knowledge, training to Level 4 diploma or equivalent desirable. Working knowledge of Biomedical techniques and practices. Knowledge of computer applications and LIMS including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Statistical Packages. Good problem-solving and communication skills, along with the adaptability to change. Good developed interpersonal and team working abilities. Ability to analyse and technically interpret test results.
