The post holder will practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate person-centred evidence-based nursing that respects and maintains dignity and human rights. They will be responsible for assessment of care needs of patients and planning programmes of care, implementation and the evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. At times they will have management responsibility for overseeing the ward/department and supervising junior members of staff. The post holder will practice in a holistic, non-judgmental, caring and compassionate manner that avoids assumptions, supports social inclusion and recognises and respects individual choice and acknowledges diversity. They will work in partnership with other health and social care professionals, students and trainees and agencies, service users, their families. The post holder will contribute to the practice development within their clinical care setting and work in accordance with Trust Policies, Procedures and Guidelines and will be responsible for completing any work-based training associated with the role. The department provides 24 hour care through a variety of shift patterns. The individual will work closely with the team to plan, assess and implement care for each patient, to carry out a full set of observations and identifying PEWS score and escalating to senior nurse and ED doctors. Main duties of the job

The ability to recognise a critically unwell child. Understand own level of responsibility and accountability in relation to role. Communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their family, visitors and carers. Through practice achieve and maintain proficiency in a range of clinical skills. Following appropriate training and supervised practice, undertake identified competency based practices which are required for the department, after such tasks have been delegated to them by the senior nursing team. Identify learning and development needs and produce personal development plans in conjunction with your line manager / supervisor. Achieve and maintain competence in mandatory and statutory training associated with the role. Complete documentation of care in line with the Trust Standards for Documentation. Qualifications

Registered Children's/ Paediatric Nurse on the NMC register Health care management / leadership qualification Experience

Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD Experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff Experience of mentoring undergraduate students Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift / Area of department Additional Criteria

Positive and enthusiastic attitude Approachable and friendly Supportive Flexible Well organised Sound clinical reasoning and decision making Ability to perform in complex and challenging situations. Ability to inspire and lead a team. Ability to work flexible shift pattern, where required to include rotation to days /night duty and unsocial hours according to service need.
