Main duties of the job

To provide a diagnostic imaging service of the highest standard in accordance with departmental protocols and guidelines for Accident and Emergency patients, In-Patients, Out-Patients and GP referrals whilst ensuring optimum patient care. Provides supervision and assists in the training of student Radiographers, acting as mentor/assessor where necessary. Will also contribute to quality assurance program and be involved in audit / research where appropriate. Provides evidence of maintaining professional competencies and continuing professional development as required by Health Care Professions Council for state registration.

Job responsibilities

Other duties include: Able to communicate imaging procedures empathetically to gain verbal consent and co-operation from a variety of patients including those from different cultural backgrounds, those with learning difficulties, paediatric, the elderly and infirm and traumatised patients. Communicates effectively with a wide range of service users including patients, carers and other healthcare professionals to provide high quality patient care and use of resources. To ensure that both patient care and the patient welfare are kept to the highest standard. To use the Radiology computer system for input and retrieval of patient details. To record all equipment faults and arrange for the service engineers to attend and repair any faults as soon as possible. Have knowledge of clerical and assistant duties and be able to undertake these when required. To maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment and liaise with estates or housekeeping department as necessary.

EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Provides evidence of maintaining professional competencies and continuing professional development as required by HCPC for state registration. To be demonstrably proactive seeking and identifying opportunities to apply new knowledge to own and others practice. Continually assess and monitor risk in own practice. Attends mandatory training courses in accordance with Trust policies.

RESEARCH AND AUDIT To participate in audit of clinical procedures and systems. To be actively involved in service improvement. To provide comments on changes to policies and procedures.

Person Specification

A+E

Essential Developed understanding of the need to work as an individual and as part of a team. Radiation safety - working knowledge of IR (M) ER 2017 regulations, and ionising radiation regulations 2017. BSc or working towards in Diagnostic Radiography or the Diploma of the College of Radiographers. Evidence of CPD. Possesses highly developed dexterity skills including fine manipulation, skills with consistency and accuracy across a wide range of equipment and radiographic positioning techniques.

Desirable

Experience of digital radiography and PACS. Some practical experience in CT/MRI scanning and intervention. Post grad certificate qualification or equivalent. Society of Radiographers Certificate of competence in administering intravenous injections or equivalent. Registration with the HCPC.
