Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced clinician to work with the Speech & Language Therapy lead and wider MDT to review, plan and co-ordinate SLT provision within the urgent care footprint. This is a new and exciting role to support patient flow through the organisation and the successful candidate will be responsible for leading change in the service and becoming an integral member of the urgent care teams. This will include opportunities to develop education and training to the wider MDT to ensure referrals into Speech and Language Therapy are both timely and appropriate. You will lead the service for the acute in-patient team, including elements of staff management, service development and being an integral part of the clinical team, as well as support with the co-ordination of SLT provision for the acute team on a day to day basis. We are aiming to focus on early assessment and intervention for communication and swallowing needs in the area, as well as follow patients who are admitted through to other acute wards, supporting staff as part of the wider caseload.

Main duties of the job We have well established teams in Acute, Stroke, Critical Care and Head and Neck Cancer as well as significant specialist clinical knowledge and clinics for Video fluoroscopy and FEES, with opportunities to develop in this area if desired. We also supervise and educate student SLTs to a graduate standard, working with the Universities to ensure standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent Registered with HCPC Evidence of attendance on specialist short courses Post graduate dysphagia training internal or external course

Desirable MSc in specialist area or working towards higher education learning Practice Educators qualification

Experience Essential Post graduate dysphagia experience and ability to manage complex cases independently Experience of managing highly complex cases Experience of multi disciplinary working Extensive relevant clinical experience at post graduate level Evidence of attendance on specialist short courses Relevant post-graduate clinical work and CPD at a senior level Commitment to personal and team development

Desirable Leadership Training Experience of teaching and supervising undergraduate students Experience of audit and research
