Main duties of the job The CNS for Safeguarding Children works as part of the Safeguarding Team across the Trust to ensure that all staff understand and meet their responsibility in relation to safeguarding the welfare of children in line with local and national guidance.
This includes providing specialist advice to a range of professionals across different disciplines on assessing, analysing and managing risk where there are concerns about the safety and welfare of children.

Job description Job responsibilities Contributing to, facilitating and providing training packages to staff working across the Trust on safeguarding and related topics in line with national guidance.
The postholder will also provide safeguarding supervision to staff working in key clinical areas.
Person Specification Education and qualifications Essential
1st Level Registered Nurse (Adult or Child) and / or Registered Midwife Qualified to Degree level or equivalent Evidence of continued professional development. Courses / Qualifications relevant to safeguarding children.
Desirable
Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting/School Nursing). Masters level qualifications relevant to safeguarding or equivalent experience Teaching qualification Safeguarding Supervision qualification. Leadership qualification
Knowledge Essential
Specialist knowledge of the Children Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 and other relevant national guidance Good knowledge of child health and development, types and signs and symptoms of abuse. Knowledge and understanding of local safeguarding children policies and procedures. Ability to use specialist knowledge to advise other staff
Experience Essential
Significant experience working with children, young people and families Experience of managing safeguarding children casework and multiagency communication. Experience of developing relationships with a range of professionals across agencies on matters relating to safeguarding children. Teaching/training experience in safeguarding children to a range of health professionals Experience of providing safeguarding supervision and challenging other professionals' decisions.
Desirable
Recent experience working in an acute health care setting. Experience of developing policies and procedures.
