Band 7 Fetal Medicine Specialist Midwife

This is a permanent part-time role for two days a week as Fetal Medicine Specialist Midwife within the Screening team at the Royal Free Hospital. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing and co-ordinating the care of women who screen positive for chromosome abnormalities and fetal abnormalities within the fetal anomaly screening programme (FASP) and where the risk for fetal abnormalities is increased due to ultrasound findings, maternal infection, genetic risk or previous incidence of abnormality. The post holder will counsel and provide support and information to parents of the unborn fetus with a suspected abnormality, including links with relevant support organisations where appropriate. They will provide a link between the woman/birthing person, maternity services and specialist Fetal Medicine Unit services. The post holder will promote midwifery practice and developments within the clinical care settings and enhance the service offered to women/birthing people and their families in line with best practice and national standards. Education & Professional Qualifications

Registered Midwife Extensive knowledge of national policy, standards and frameworks Evidence of teaching and developing junior staff both formally and informally Experience

Broad experience in all aspects of Midwifery Care Experience of data collection and analysis Working experience of Risk Management Experience of Counselling Skills and Aptitude

IT literate Understanding of current midwifery issues Sensitive to the diverse needs of women Knowledge of change management Excellent presentation skills Ability to critically analyse complex situations/data Counselling and listening skills To be a proactive, participant member in staff development Evidence of ability to prioritise to ensure the smooth running of the service Personal Qualities & Attributes

Flexibility Commitment to women-centred care Understanding of complaints management Able to use appropriate language according to circumstances Disclosure and Barring Service Check
