Band 7 – Lead Mammographer, Radiology

We are seeking a confident and empathetic Lead Mammographer to join our team at St Albans City Hospital, leading the breast imaging service.

The successful candidate will work closely with our Lead Breast Consultant, Radiology Breast Consultants, and the Radiology management team to provide management and leadership for the breast imaging team.

The post holder will deputise for the site lead Radiographer in their absence, assisting and supporting the delivery of the department's strategic and operational priorities.

This is a part-time role, requiring 16 hours per week, Monday to Friday only.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must be HCPC registered with a BSc or DCR in Diagnostic Radiography, along with a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Mammography.

They should have extensive experience in Mammography, as well as leadership and management experience.

The post holder will collaborate closely with breast clinicians in Radiology and the breast clinic to ensure a smooth and clear pathway for patients, ensuring that targets are consistently met.

They will provide reassurance to patients through clear explanations and effective communication with patients, their relatives, or carers, using tact and empathy.

The post holder will maintain respect for patients' privacy, dignity, wishes, and beliefs, while minimising any discomfort.

Although not required at the start of employment, the post holder will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of departmental and Trust procedures and policies, ensuring compliance at all times.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications:

Essential

BSc or DCR in Diagnostic Radiography. Postgraduate certificate/diploma in Mammography. HCPC registration. Additional qualifications.

Desirable

Management/Leadership qualification or experience.

Knowledge:

Essential

Legislation regarding ionising radiation. Proven knowledge base of mammography and NHSBSP. Clinical & information governance and evidence-based practice.

Desirable

Knowledge of change management.

Experience:

Essential

Extensive experience in Mammography. Experience of leadership and management (people and service). Experience of working with other divisions/interpersonal skills.

Desirable

Understanding of recent developments with Mammography/Radiology/NHS. Teaching, training, mentoring experience. Current or previous experience of managing a service - delivering targets.
