Band 7 Physician Associate - Haematology

This role is part of an NCL initiative, in order to support suspected cancer patients through the pathway, and improve earlier diagnosis. This role has been created to provide practical support to consultant-led clinical triage and support for the development of a Haematology Straight-To-Test pathway for suspected cancer referrals: Coordinate patients referred on the suspected cancer pathway through their initial contacts, diagnostics, and consultant-led appointments to arrive at an early diagnosis to confirm or exclude cancer, in line with the 28-day faster diagnosis standard. Communicate effectively with patients within 2 days of referral regarding the pathway/protocol, to identify any specific needs for access and mitigate potential issues at an early stage. Contribute to the workstreams related to audit and development of the EPR-digitised pathway, ensuring triage data is captured and stored as clinical notes on EPR. Lead and improve the processes around patient feedback to ensure the pathway pilot continues to refine the STT pathway during the pilot duration. Audit and improve the quality of referral information under supervision from the Haematology Cancer Lead clinician, refining the information received from primary and local diagnostic routes as appropriate for patients who do not meet the basic clinical criteria for referral. Main duties of the job

Clinical duties: Manage patients in all areas of the Haematology Department (ward, day unit outpatient clinics, emergency department) within the scope of practice and under the direction of the duty named consultant. Exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy when assessing, managing, and planning care for a caseload of specific Haematology patients with a variety of presentations to establish differential diagnosis, make appropriate treatment plans, and initiate treatment, escalating as appropriate. Record or dictate the history and physical condition and ensure accurate and comprehensive medical records are maintained using appropriate written and electronic documentation according to Trust guidelines. Postgraduate Diploma/Master in Physician Associate (formally Physician Assistant) from an accredited UK University. Bachelor degree in Life science/Biomedical/Nursing or Allied Health Science. Member of Faculty of Physician Associate at Royal College of Physician. Member of Physician Associate Managed Voluntary Register (PAMVR). Valid national certification and recertification every six years as stipulated by PAMVR. Experience

Experience working as a Physician Associate in a hospital or community setting. Experience in clinical audit. Publication experience. Experience in mentoring students. Skills and Aptitudes

Good verbal and written communication skills and able to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, relatives, or carers. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to CPD & professional development. Strong organisation and prioritisation skills. Interest in learning and developing new clinical/surgical skills. Basic or Advanced Life Support.
