An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Practice Development Midwife (PDM) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in advancing and enhancing the quality of care in our Maternity Department. Your primary focus will be to support junior midwives as they navigate their clinical practice, helping them build confidence and competence in their new roles. As a PDM, you will design, implement, and evaluate educational and developmental programs tailored for midwives and other healthcare professionals, all aimed at improving clinical practices and patient outcomes. The PDM team plays a crucial role in enhancing the knowledge, skills, and practices of midwives, ultimately elevating the quality of care provided to service users and their families. We are offering both full-time and part-time positions, and we welcome flexible working applications. Main duties of the job

Develop curriculum, training materials, and resources to enhance clinical skills and knowledge. Stay informed about the latest evidence-based practices in midwifery. Develop and update clinical guidelines and standards to ensure compliance with best practices. Conduct training sessions and workshops to bolster midwives' clinical competencies. Provide ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance the skills of the maternity care team. Collaborate with healthcare teams to identify and address areas for improvement in maternity care. Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and satisfaction. Engage in research activities to contribute to the advancement of midwifery practices. Integrate innovative approaches and technologies into clinical care as appropriate. Offer mentorship and support to midwives, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Address challenges and concerns related to clinical practices through effective guidance and coaching. Collaborate closely with the lead midwife for education, education team members, and other healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, nurses, and administrators. Job responsibilities

Organise, plan, and implement Maternity Education Training for the multidisciplinary team (MDT). Communicate the results of training needs analyses, continuing professional development (CPD) plans, and aspects of program enrolment to staff members. Promote continuous professional development for staff while providing guidance to relevant personnel and agencies as needed. Support the onboarding process for new hires by delivering efficient and effective inductions and collaborating with the onboarding team. Prepare and present reports that highlight achievements and identify areas for improvement. Develop educational materials for expectant mothers and their families, ensuring they are well informed about their care and have a positive birthing experience. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines. Analyse data related to clinical outcomes and performance metrics. Collaborate with external organisations and institutions to share best practices and foster collaborative learning. Person Specification

Education and qualifications

Registered Midwife with a UK NMC Pin. Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience working in a midwifery role. Evidence of continuing professional development. NLS trained. PROMPT trainer. MSc or willing to undertake. Teaching qualification such as PGCE. Knowledge

Knowledge of clinical quality and safety strategies and implementation. Up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of current professional issues both locally and nationally. Knowledge of NMC Rules and Code of Practice. Understanding the use of evidence-based practice. Knowledge of national policies or drivers that underpin practice and staff development. Experience

Relevant experience as Band 6 or Band 7. Recent Delivery Suite experience. Sound clinical judgement. Previous experience in audit or research. Previous experience in managing/leading change in practice. Currently holds a similar role or previous experience in practice development/education/project planning. Coaching skills. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
