Bank Respiratory Specialist Community Nurse

To use specialist respiratory knowledge and skills to safely identify patients with an acute respiratory exacerbation that are suitable for admission avoidance and self-management care plans using the NICE guidance for safe care planning and home management. To undertake comprehensive assessments of patients with suspected respiratory disease, including history taking, physical examination, spirometry, and formulating individualised management and treatment plans using clinical reasoning. To undertake comprehensive assessments of complex respiratory patients with co-morbidities, including physical examination, and to develop treatment plans for patients using investigative and analytical skills. To work with the team in developing and implementing specialist care programmes, including home oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, psychological interventions, and medication reviews, adhering to evidence-based guidelines. To be able to perform capillary/arterial blood gas test and spirometry or willing to train. To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical tests to form an accurate management plan and assess suitability for the appropriate services to maintain a patient at home or ensure safe transfer of care to the community and develop comprehensive discharge plans.
