Detailed job description and main responsibilities To provide specialised treatments with the appropriate skills and knowledge, where a high degree of manual dexterity, precision, hand/eye co-ordination and good sensory co-ordination is required. To autonomously assess and diagnose patients with a diverse range of medical and podiatric conditions, working within professional codes of practice and guidelines, using appropriate diagnostic techniques, skills and instrumentation, both within general podiatry and in the specialist field. Guidance may be provided by a senior clinician when necessary. To have the ability to assess patients with very high risk factors, considering all the complexities of the patient's condition. To create and implement tailored treatment and specialised care plans using a variety of appropriate treatment regimes for a range of patient groups including those in the 'high risk' category, focusing on the management of primary foot pathologies and to evaluate and review treatment outcomes and implement discharge policies. To adopt a problem-solving approach, engaging patients and carers in their treatment plan, negotiating on agreed outcomes, gaining consent and educating users on self-care. To provide general and specialist foot health advice, including the care of the 'at risk' and 'high risk' foot. To provide information on the signs and symptoms of pedal manifestations of systemic, chronic and acute diseases. Person specification Education/Qualification Essential criteria

BSc Degree In Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified prior to 1991) Evidence of continual professional and personal development Registration with the Health Professions Council Certificate in local anaesthesia Desirable criteria

Evidence of post grad training in a specialist area of podiatry Experience Essential criteria

Significant post graduate clinical experience Experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working Experience of working in an NHS environment Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease/pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot Desirable criteria

Experience of managing a team Experience of rota and diary management Experience of staff recruitment Skills and Knowledge Essential criteria

Ability to evaluate patients' concerns and needs and propose effective solutions Organisational and planning skills to manage your own work time and domiciliary caseload Knowledge of recent developments in the profession Understanding of Clinical Governance - theory and practice Desirable criteria
