Key Responsibilities:

Access, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care. Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and the multidisciplinary team. Co-ordinate patient-centred care from admission to discharge. Maintain accurate patient records using various clinical systems. Act as patients’ advocate. Promote the health and empowerment of patients. Identify and communicate changes in patients' needs. Work with multiple teams and clinical areas appropriate to your qualification. Access to mandatory training and clinical skills.

Policy and Service Responsibilities:

Follow trust policies and procedures, including risk reporting. Contribute to the development of the ward/department by attending meetings and supporting the implementation of change. Act as a resource link nurse for the ward. Develop oneself and contribute to the development of others.

Financial and Physical Resources:

May be required to handle patients' valuables and cash. Ensure stock levels are maintained. Manage resources within allocated budget; take appropriate action when challenged as a consequence of activity or staffing numbers.

Staff Responsibilities:

Participate in the education and supervision of the ward team, including students. Act as Team or Shift leader. Mentor student nurses and unqualified staff, following appropriate training. Supervise the ward team in the absence of the ward sister or senior nurse to develop own managerial skills. Accept the concept of clinical supervision.
