Behaviour Support Worker - South Leeds

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Behaviour Support Worker for a full-time role in a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in South Leeds.

Our client provides education for a small cohort of pupils aged 11-16 who are taught outside of mainstream schools for various reasons, including exclusions, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, medical issues, pregnancy, and young motherhood.

Approximately 90% of pupils also have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).

As a Support Worker, you will work closely with colleagues to create a nurturing and supportive environment. Your role will involve developing an individualised curriculum for pupils, aimed at reducing barriers to learning and maximising their potential. You will be confident in managing pupil behaviour effectively and passionate about offering pastoral support and delivering interventions that encourage engagement with education.

Key Responsibilities:

Implement behaviour modification interventions in response to issues raised by pastoral staff and/or subject teachers, focusing on students with emotional or mental health needs. Facilitate emotional and behavioural support for individuals and small groups, using a range of intervention strategies. Deliver targeted intervention programmes such as mental and emotional health, self-esteem, anger management, and self-awareness, to both groups and individuals. Support students in improving punctuality, attendance levels, and reintegration into school following prolonged absences. Work under the guidance of the SENCO, teaching staff, and senior leaders to implement agreed interventions and work programmes. Collaborate with individuals and groups of students based on information provided by Heads of Year, including behavioural concerns, academic levels, and reasons for referral. Foster a calm working atmosphere with minimal disturbance, applying the school's expectations assertively and fairly.

About You: We are seeking individuals with experience in supporting young people within an educational or community setting. You will need to be resilient and passionate about working with young people with complex needs. Experience in Youth Work or Social Care is also highly beneficial.

Essential Requirements: Team Teach training (or a willingness to undertake this training). Confidence in managing challenging behaviour and delivering tailored interventions.
