Behaviour Support Workers - Wakefield and Surrounding Areas
Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Around 90% of the pupils have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP), so your role will be pivotal in helping them overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.
About the Role: As a Behaviour Support Worker, you'll play a key role in creating a safe and nurturing learning environment across various settings. You'll work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and SENCOs to support pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing and delivering behaviour intervention strategies tailored to individual pupils or small groups. Supporting pupils with SEMH needs to overcome emotional and behavioural challenges, helping them engage with education. Running targeted intervention sessions on topics such as mental health, self-esteem, anger management, and resilience. Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining a calm and focused learning atmosphere. Helping pupils reintegrate into school following periods of absence and improving their attendance and punctuality. Supporting teachers in implementing personalised learning plans and ensuring pupils stay on track.
About You: We're looking for individuals with a genuine passion for supporting young people. Whether you've worked in education, youth work, social care, or similar settings, your resilience, empathy, and proactive approach will set you apart.
Key skills and experience: Team Teach training is highly desirable (or a willingness to complete this training). Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour. A calm, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting pupils. The ability to foster positive relationships with both pupils and staff.
