Job Description

The Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Level 5 is an 18-month long apprenticeship that prepares individuals to support learners across various educational settings, including primary, secondary, special schools, and further education institutions. Specialist teaching assistants work with students of all ages, often focusing on special educational needs (SEND), social and emotional well-being, or specific curriculum areas like EAL, forest schools, or music education. The role involves planning, implementing, and adapting learning activities, while drawing on research and reflective practice. Specialist teaching assistants build relationships with learners, families, and professionals, contributing to the development of inclusive, supportive learning environments. They are responsible for supporting both individual and group learning, ensuring student safety, and assisting with assessment and evaluation processes. Additionally, they may train and support colleagues in their specialist area. What will the apprentice be doing? Supporting students to accomplish their daily goals in a variety of subjects Working with teachers to understand and support assessment Developing effective and informed practice Safeguarding and promoting the health, safety, and welfare of children Developing strategies for support What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship? It is up to you what you do when you have finished your apprenticeship. There may be an opportunity to stay on at the same company and progress to the next level of qualification, High Level Teaching Assistant. Alternatively, you may want to look for a new job or other professional development opportunity. We have been a successful Independent Special School in Wales since 2007. We have been open on our all-through school in Shrewsbury, England for two academic years and are now in our 3rd academic year of operation. Our ethos is to offer more students and their families the opportunity to experience the Lifehouse approach to education and life. Many of our pupils have had challenges within the education system. We go right back to basics and build relationships, self-confidence, and a real sense of safety from the offset. Once this is in place, learning will follow. Our pupils have a range of special educational needs and all have EHCPs. We currently have 95 pupils on roll. Details of working week Term Time Only: Mon - Fri 9am - 4pm
